FAQs

Do I have to sign a contract?

We offer month-to-month membership which includes unlimited classes. This allows students to come to class as many times as they like each week. You can cancel at anytime with 30 day notice, but we are pretty sure that you won’t want to!

What are your hours?

Our 5:00 class offered Monday – Friday is geared towards our younger students (Ages 5 – 12). Our 6:00 class is offered Monday – Thursday and is considered our family class where parents and their children can train together. This class is also appropriate for ages 10 and up. Our 7:00 class offered Tuesday and Thursday is for our Adults, Teenagers and higher belts interested in a more traditional and formal teaching style. Our 10:00 Saturday class is open to all students. We do offer an 11:00 class at the 127th and Antioch location for students interested in advanced sparring and tournament training. This is a combined class with students from our Headquarters school. See our calendar of events for our full schedule of classes and events.

How young can children start Tae Kwon Do?

We recommend waiting until children are at least 5 years old before starting them in martial arts. There are developmental differences between ages 4 and 5 that make it important to wait. If kids start too young there is a chance they will lose interest.  At 5+ they are more likely to continue with their training and receive the benefits a lot longer.

How old is too old?

You are never too old! We have had a 73 year old student at MAI North and have trained other students into their 70s at other schools. Obviously there are differences in the training used, but age is NOT a barrier to entry.

How much does it cost?

Our pricing is $99/month 1 student, $160/month 2 students, and $198/month for the entire family. That allow students to come AS MANY DAYS a week that they want. The monthly fee includes: uniform, belt, and unlimited classes. We try very hard to keep training affordable and extra fees to a minimum. There is one additional fee and that is for belt testing. For each belt test there is a cost of $50 – $65 up to red belt. Black belt testing is done differently.

What is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae Kwon Do is a form of martial arts that is over 2000 years old. With its roots in Korea, rather than promote the use of force, the philosophy of Tae Kwon Do embodies the spirit of building a more peaceful world. To achieve this, the very basis begins with the development of the individual. This form of Martial Arts emphasizes on the development of an individual’s character, personality, and positive moral and ethical traits. It is upon this basis that individuals possessing positive attitudes and characteristics may achieve the “end goal” — of being at peace with oneself and the world.
