Belts tests are offered approximately every 6 to 8 weeks. Students are not able to test whenever they want. Instead, they are recommended for testing based on the assessment areas listed below. Belt tests are affiliated with The World Tae Kwon Do Federation (Kukkiwon) and are recognized throughout the world.

If you have been recommended for testing, you may download the Belt Testing Form here.

Areas Assessed

Student progress is assessed to determine if they are ready to test. Areas of student proficiency include:
  • Poomse (forms)
  • Stances
  • Kicks
  • Power
  • Length of time since the last test
  • Attitude and progress since their previous test

Testing Eligibility

Testing eligibility is determined by the instructor based on the above criteria. Belt tests will be conducted under the supervision of Master Justin Tjelmeland (6th degree Black Belt) and a panel of Black Belt Instructors and visiting Masters.

Belt Promotion

Students will be required to score higher than a predetermined cut off. Upon successful completion of testing requirements, a belt of the next highest rank will be awarded to the student the following week. In the event that the student does not meet the required cut off score, he or she will be permitted to test at the next belt promotion test for no additional fee. Black Belt testings are only held twice a year and there is plenty of preparation leading up to the test.
